The company describe themselves as an Aberdeen-based techno night. Flick is a night that plays once a week. Partnering with a local Aberdeen club in the city centre, they aim to give their customers the latest and greatest techno songs. Aberdeen is a city with lots of young people – both professionals and students – with a wide range of music tastes. Flick aims to fill a techno shaped gap in the market.


The music sector is very competitive. Whether it’s streaming services, artists, DJs or more, they all have a range of different competitors. Trying to gain market share in this particular can therefore be difficult. You either need to be better than competitors at what they do, or fill a gap in the market. Flick were aiming to fill a gap in the market. They felt that there wasn’t currently a viable techno night option in Aberdeen. However, one thing that companies always have to get right is their branding. Your brand identity can determine your success.

It was vital that Flick branded themselves correctly. They needed to inform the consumer that they were a techno night – and offered something that wasn’t presently available. However, developing a strong brand identity isn’t something that can be done overnight. It takes time and effort to shape. A great way to start building a brand identity is through logo design. This is because your logo is going to be so important to your brand image. As it will be – for the most part – the first thing about your business the consumer sees, it needs to be eye-catching enough to capture their attentions. It will then need to be informative and attractive enough to entice them to learn more about you.


Once we had agreed to work with Flick, we started our design process. No matter what the project, we always begin with research. We needed to learn as much about the client as possible. Important aspects of their business to learn was their aims/objectives, the products/services they offered and who their target demographic are. It can also be helpful to look at their competitive environment. Looking at what competitors had done in terms of logo design and branding would give us a good idea of the direction we could take ours.

After we were happy with the information collected in research, we began brainstorming. This is the stage when we use all the information gathered in research (alongside any guidelines the client had given us) and got creative. Thinking of different design concepts for the logo.

Depending on the package you have purchased, we will come up with a number of design concepts. Because Flick had purchased our Advanced Package, we created 5 concepts for them. This particular package also gives them 9 logo revisions to use. Once we had created these design concepts, we had to begin sketching out logos. This is done in order to get a better feel of the design and make any revisions that are required.
